Slightly spicy, sweet and tart with a dash of sea salt—a lovely fall combo. This snack is one of my favorites as the seasons change. Organic apples abound at local harvest festivals—trips to get them warm the spirit—and cayenne literally warms the body from the inside out. If you, or your family members, are not fans of cayenne, Raw Fall Apple Cayenne Crisps are just as tasty sans cayenne. Adjust the ingredients to your taste. This Fall, per YumUniverse contributor Robyn’s recommendation, I went to the Wild Raspberry Apple Orchard Harvest Fest in Union Pier, Michigan. My entry fee included, not only a slice of deeelicious homemade apple pie, but a bag to fill with hand-picked organic apples or Asian pears. It was so calming to walk the rows of trees in the orchard, filling my bag with organic goodies. Raw Sprouted Sundried Tomato Quinoa Salad

People often ask me where they can get their protein if they are going to stop eating meat. Well, unlike wheat or rice, the ancient grain quinoa contains a balanced set of essential amino acids which make it a complete protein source. Quinoa is inexpensive (usually found in the bulk section of the local health food store) and super versatile. You can make cereal with it, pancakes, and even bake gluten-free treats with quinoa flour. We combine it with crunchy, raw cashews, zesty sundried tomatoes and organic broccoli for this creamy, raw, sprouted, gluten-free quinoa salad. Make it for a tasty lunch, snack or dinner. You can also prepare this salad with cooked quinoa (my fave) if you don’t have the patience for sprouting (although it’s pretty easy). Either way, yum! Read more…
